SWIB Statement of Solidarity

To our community,

Amidst the tragic deaths of Nina Pop, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and many other innocent Black people, we are writing to express our outrage and grief surrounding the systematic racism and injustice inflicted upon the Black community, both currently and historically. Stanford Women in Business stands in solidarity with the Black community and vows to act against the persistent, structural inequality that too many are still facing.

As an organization, SWIB is driven to empower gender equality in the workplace and provide professional resources and opportunities. Though, we fully recognize our organization’s historical privilege, and it is evident that we must and will do more to educate ourselves, speak out, and provide active, anti-racist allyship for Black women and all people of color.

With particular recognition of the magnified marginalization of Black women, we are taking steps to educate on and eliminate misogynoir. We are working to amplify Black female voices in existing programming and in new initiatives, such as a podcast highlighting women of color. We are initiating open dialogue on deep-seated injustices faced by the Black community by educating our members with resources, readings, and discussion. We are taking action to plan and promote financial support of Black organizations, calling upon corporate donation programs for matching.

We pledge our commitment to leveraging our organization’s platform to address, denounce, and improve the present reality that perpetuates such reprehensible inequality.

We wish all safety and wellness during this time, and we believe that together we will unite our leadership, empathy, and support to realize a more equal and just future.

In Solidarity,

Stanford Women in Business
