Palm Drive Capital is a New York-based venture capital and growth equity firm focused on software as a service (SaaS) and marketplace investments in the US. Portfolio companies include Jet.com, Clover Health, WeLab, Boom Supersonic, Carta, Bench Accounting, and Capsule Pharmacy. The partners met at Stanford over a decade ago and have obtained backing from the top entrepreneurs and institutions in the US and Asia.

Position Overview

Since Palm Drive is a boutique firm, analysts will have an opportunity to interact closely with the partners and participate in the entire investment process. Tasked with generating new investment opportunities for the firm, the analyst will be responsible for reaching out to entrepreneurs at startups that would be a good fit for Palm Drive’s investment platform. The analyst will also be responsible for supporting the Palm Drive investment team on both quantitative and qualitative projects, which include market research, portfolio company support, and deal sourcing. The analyst will also perform business analysis, due diligence, and modeling to help the investment team make investment decisions. Past analysts have been able to develop the confidence and ability to interact with established technology founders, analytical abilities to present a view on investment opportunities, and a strong network in technology industry. This internship could be a good starting point to explore a career in technology startups, finance, or venture capital/growth equity.

A candidate must be available for a full ten-week internship in the Fall of 2019, Winter of 2020, Spring of 2020, or Summer of 2020. We are flexible on start times to accommodate for varying academic calendars. We will provide you monthly stipends, free lunch, and the opportunity to earn carried interest in the fund for completed deals.

Responsibilities

  • Identify attractive investment opportunities and generate meetings with relevant entrepreneurs via outreach

  • Work on all stages of due diligence including market analysis, and conduct primary and secondary research

  • Create detailed business models and basic financial models; and run analyses using industry knowledge

  • Analyze findings and effectively communicate with our investment committee

  • Help create presentations for investors, portfolio companies, and founders

  • Attend and occasionally help organize technology and investment-related conferences and events

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated academic success

  • Must have integrity, humility, and high moral standards

  • Experience in Excel, PowerPoint is a bonus

  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Superior work ethic, and highly motivated individual with demonstrated initiative, independence and adaptability

  • Proficiency in financial concepts is a bonus

  • Computer science experience a plus

  • Finance/investment experience a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
