Co-Founder Opportunity for Education Non-profit

Please contact grace@canvas.vc if you have questions or are interested. You would be working closely with Mike Ghaffary, GP at Canvas Ventures.

Role

Grad student or senior/junior interested in being the founder a non-profit organization. This could be a part-time role, or it could be your full-time job in the current uncertain job market, but it's a founder role and doesn't have a salary currently.

Responsibilities

  • Founder role: take full responsibility as the "buck stops here" person

  • You would have my support for introductions, ideas, and guidance on the project

  • Initial effort is writing up language about the mission and spreading the word, driving initial donations of devices and funds.

  • Minimum time commitment is 10 hours per week. Can be a full-time role if you want it to be, and can be something to have on your resume vs a gap in employment.

Problem Statement

Now that it’s clear most children in California will be attending school virtually for the rest of the semester, the digital divide is more acute than ever.

For example, the 300 homeless school-aged kids currently in the Hamilton Families programs in the Bay Area. Only 20 of these kids currently have access to a computer for online learning: that’s only 6%.

Each of these kids should have their own basic device to learn on.

More info here; their idea is to start by doing this for Hamilton Families in the SF Bay Area, then scaling it nationally if that works: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6657473628935987200/
