Summer Internship with Onyx Renewable Partners- Strategy and Finance

Onyx is seeking an analyst to join its Strategy and Finance group for the summer of 2023. The analyst will be primarily involved in the analysis and execution of M&A and capital markets transactions, including debt and tax equity. Onyx seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intellectually curious, and have demonstrated high performance in their previous endeavors. In addition to strong analytical and quantitative skills, the successful candidate should have solid communication skills, a demonstrated ability to write effectively, and a desire to work in a team environment, often under pressure.

Throughout the internship, you will be embedded on the Strategy and Finance team and will contribute to the work we undertake with internal and external stakeholders. Full immersion on the team will provide you with the opportunity to learn about each of the Onyx business units and expand your professional network by meeting Onyx team members, external counterparties (financiers, consultants, contractors, engineers, lawyers, etc.) and fellow interns. While the core intern experience is driven by on-the-job learning, we also provide formal training in financial modeling, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and renewable energy market dynamics.

8-10-week program beginning on June 5, 2023. Internship will be located in our NYC office. Pay range $25-$35 per hour

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial analyses, due diligence and presentations to facilitate making important investment decisions

  • Provide analytical and execution support for M&A, debt, and tax equity transactions, interfacing with the project and business development teams on structural and technical elements of projects

  • Assist in preparation of investment memoranda on potential acquisitions and divestitures

  • Conduct market research on industry trends, new markets or technologies, and federal and state policy

  • Adapt quickly with the continuing evolution of the firm and the renewable energy industry

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university who will be a senior following the end of the 2022-2023 school year

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • Competency in financial modeling is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong organizational and people skills

  • Familiarity with corporate finance, valuation, and financial accounting concepts

  • Intellectual curiosity and the confidence to interact with the firm’s senior leadership and external financing counterparties
