My name is Becky and I work at a political consulting firm located close by in Palo Alto called Hughes & Company. An organization called close the gap CA is also run out of our office. close the gap CA’s mission is to increase the number of progressive women running for open state legislative seats in 2016. We are currently looking for interns to help our team with work for both the firm and for close the gap CA! Interns will receive a stipend. We are looking for approx. 10-15 hours a week, and the internship may continue to June, or beyond, if it’s a good fit. Political Consulting Firm Seeks Winter/Spring Intern

Hughes & Company, a political strategy and communications firm located in Palo Alto, seeks an outstanding intern for a small busy office. The firm is leading a statewide campaign (www.closethegapCA.org) to recruit talented progressive women to run for open seats in the California legislature in 2016. We seek an excellent researcher, writer and blogger who can commit 10-­15 hours per week to this project as well as to other clients of the firm.

Responsibilities include: Writing briefing materials related to the project, Excel spreadsheet data entry and management, assisting with logistics for meetings, events and scheduling, Internet research, developing Power Point presentations, phone outreach to allied organizations, general office work and contributing content to social media.

Successful applicants will have a professional demeanor and style, good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage various projects simultaneously, and familiarity with PC or Mac. An applicant should be a motivated self­starter, able to work well without constant supervision. Volunteer/internship experience on a political campaign highly desirable and an interest in public affairs, current events, and politics is required, as is an excellent sense of humor. A flexible schedule is permitted. We want you to get a lot out of this while you are with us (and vice versa)!

Rewards: Be an integral part of a statewide effort to increase women’s representation in the California Legislature. We are also glad to coordinate course credit with your academic advisor. Your work with Hughes & Company could be the subject of a research paper or thesis. This internship pays a stipend of $600 per month.
