West Wing Writers Speech Writing Internship

Do you have an each for rhythm, an eye for detail, a mind for research—and a stomach for revision, revision, revision?

Maybe you’ve been inspired by a powerful op-ed, or read one and thought, “I could make that better!” Maybe you’ve read the copy on the back of your favorite product, or on the website of your favorite company, and imagined a better way to tell its story. Maybe you’ve been mesmerized by a soaring keynote, or fidgeted through a dull one, and wondered about the process that makes speeches what they are.

If so, you might be just the person we’re looking for.

West Wing Writers, a speechwriting and strategic communications firm, is currently accepting applications for its summer (June-August) and fall (September-December) internship programs.

WWW partners with a wide array of clients—from Fortune 500 companies to progressive activists—helping them find their voice, hone their message, and push for change. Interns are a pivotal part of the West Wing Writers team, learning about, observing, and contributing to the process by which big ideas are formed, articulated, and amplified.

They don’t expect interns to have experience in the industry before, but they do want people who love to write and are excellent researchers; people who are creative, curious, thoughtful, motivated, and dependable.

Interns are paired with an on-staff mentor who provides feedback and guidance throughout the internship. They’ll have the opportunity to learn about research and writing through structured seminars and a variety of projects.

Many WWW interns have gone on to write for leaders at the Human Rights Campaign, Teach for America, Planned Parenthood, and YouTube; for foreign ambassadors, senators, and cabinet secretaries—even for the President of the United States.

All internships are full-time (Monday through Friday, 9-6) and pay $3,300 per month. They are entirely remote—though interns are welcome to use their DC and NY offices as they wish. They are open only to rising college seniors, college seniors, and college graduates.

West Wing Writers is committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment. They strongly encourage members of historically underrepresented groups to apply, including people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, gender-nonconforming people, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and multilingual individuals.
